Education
TWA is committed to increasing the number of high-quality educational opportunities for both K-12 students and post-secondary students across the U.S by assisting existing schools and/or new schools to implement the Hybrid School Model. The Hybrid School Model represents a paradigm shift in how to deliver critical content and important skills that students must master to achieve future success, irrespective of the career they pursue.
Innovators in the education space (Sal Kahn, Kahn Academy; Ron Packard, Pansophic Learning; Stephen Kosslyn, Active Learning Sciences) and well designed, researched based educational experiments (The Stanford University Online High School), have paved the way for a new school model, one that combines synchronous and asynchronous learning: the Hybrid School Model. TWA believes the Hybrid School Model represents a compelling option for school operators who want to expand their reach to more students across many schools in their network, while maintaining quality, flexibility, efficiency, and access. The Hybrid School model is built upon a digital foundation that can leverage cloud-based resources (asynchronous) and integrate them with on-campus educational operations (synchronous) to establish affordable, consistent, quality-assured, premium education opportunities that were previously out of reach of many communities. The prospect of a new Hybrid School Model doesn’t require us to abandon the traditional school components of teachers, lessons, timetables, care, and community that we hold dear – it requires us to reimagine them.
The Hybrid School Model can be easily customized to meet the needs of all students. Smart curriculum design on the front end will ensure proper scaffolding and pacing for all ability levels. Careful assessment of student progress will allow rapid deployment of assistance when needed.
Additionally, TWA strongly supports Music, Fine Arts, Drama and Sports Programs, as these enhance students’ educational success, health, and well-being, and they provide opportunities to bring school communities together. Those extra-curricular programs fit very nicely into the Hybrid School model because students have more flexibility in their schedules to pursue these options.
Serving as the Chief Academic Officer for TWA, Dr. Jan Keating, Founding Head of School for the Stanford University Online High School, has assembled a team of curriculum experts who have extensive experience designing both online and hybrid courses that have been implemented in the U.S. and internationally. Dr. Keating and her team will work in partnership with school leaders to implement the Hybrid School Model.
